Not to be confused with FUE, Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) involves removing a strip from the donor area (usually the back of the head), dividing the tissue into follicular units and then replanting these follicular units into the recipient area. During FUT, a good surgeon will minimise scarring around the donor area – the finest scar will allow hair to grow back in and conceal any previous incisions.
What are the benefits of FUT?
FUT allows for large quantities of follicular grafts to be made in one procedure. Furthermore, because of the technique involved, surgeons can maximise the growth potential of each follicular unit by keeping all of its elements intact. In turn, this means that the appearance of ‘new’ hair is extremely natural as growth is virtually uninterrupted.
The success of FUE or FUT ultimately depends on the skill of the surgical team.
