FUE is a relatively new breakthrough in the world of transplantation. Introduced in 2002 – and different to the ‘strip method’ FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), FUE involves extracting single follicle units directly from the scalp - rather than in large patches or groups – and implanting them individually. This revolutionary, non-invasive technique creates minimal scarring and produces very realistic results.
How it works
Once the overall hair placement/design is agreed by you and the surgeon, and final assessment of the donor hair quality has taken place, the process of FUE begins. It works by making tiny incisions in the scalp which are no more than 1mm wide. The hair follicle is then carefully extracted and implanted in the designated area. This procedure takes place using local anaesthetic.

What are the benefits of FUE?
Generally-speaking, FUE offers:
- less scarring and bleeding than FUT
- minimal physical discomfort and post-operative recovery time
- the opportunity to draw hair from a larger donor area - hair can also be extracted from eyebrows or nape of neck
- the option of wearing a very short or shaved style since there is virtually no scarring
